Count how many rectangles cover each grid cell

Rectangles are laid on a grid, each one an update that covers a block of cells. Return, for every cell, how many rectangles cover it, without walking every cell of every rectangle.

One report started with the one-dimensional version (intervals on a line, counted like cars in a parking lot over time) before moving to rectangles.
